Ready… set… go!

September 13, 2020

Welcome back to ringette — we are excited to be hitting the ice soon! Here are some important updates for start of the season:

TOWNHALL MEETING SEPT 15

Parents and athletes are weclomed to attend a virtual townhall meeting with all members of Chilliwack Ringette. Meet the President and Executive and hear about the safety protocols from Julie Wilson, our COVID Safety Officer. You will find the meeting link in the Team Snap calendar.

TEAM SNAPP’D

You have been added to Team Snap, our preferred system for communication. Please check your profile and update accordingly. You can include other family members contact information and emergency contacts. Check out your squad members and coach. Coaches may be calling virtual meetings prior to the first ice time.

JERSEYS

If you played last season and still have your game jersey — please keep it for a little longer. Our equipment manager will let you know when it’s time to return it. Please do not wear your game jersey to your first ice time.

SCHEDULE

All teams will have first ice time on Sunday, September 20th. Your Team Snap schedule will be updated this week to let you know of your time.

NEW! SQUAD POWER

Your athlete has been added to a small ‘squad’ of players to start off the season. Here is a message from the President about the initial squad formations:

Good afternoon Ringette Parents,

I wanted to take a few minutes to explain how Chilliwack Ringette Association is proceeded with the upcoming season.

COVID protocols surrounding team formation, game play and the structure of ringette is ever-changing. This is good because it means we are moving towards a more ‘normal’ version of ringette. However it does cause challenges for our association as we try to form our teams within the safety rules of the province, Ringette BC, and City of Chilliwack. To begin the season, we will be starting with ‘squads’ instead of teams. These squads will be smaller groups (6-9 athletes) and each squad will have a coach. There will always be two squads per ice time.

Please be aware:

  • Squads are not teams
  • These squads do not play in league games
  • Squads are not for the full season, they are until ringette has advanced to the next progression and player evaluation can be done. At that point, we will be forming set teams based on evaluations.

Players may not be in the same age/peer group as last year for a few reasons: they may be strong skaters and moved for development; they may be strong leaders and moved to role-model; they may be moved to accommodate existing ‘bubbles’.

They have not been moved ‘up’ or ‘down’ as these are evaluation practice squads to start off the season. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding a placement.

—Mike Kinar, President
